Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve

Named for a prominent rock outcrop known as the Pinnacle, the Pinnacle Natural Area Preserve consists of 712-acres at the confluence of Big Cedar Creek (a state scenic river) and the Clinch River. The Clinch River watershed contains the highest number of globally-imperiled freshwater species in the United States. In addition to several state and globally-rare species and communities, the Pinnacle NAP also hosts waterfalls, limestone cliffs, and a rich diversity of trees and wildflowers. Virginia's Natural Area Preserve System includes some of the rarest natural communities and rare species habitats in Virginia. There are now 59 dedicated natural areas totaling 48,031 acres protecting 356 unique, significant natural communities and rare plant and animal species. Public access at Pinnacle NAP is day-use only and offers outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities, 6 miles of scenic hiking trails, excellent fishing, and picnic tables.
