Shumate Falls is a Class II-III rapid, with a canoe landing just west of Glen Lyn. The New River winds its way through Giles County, flowing north for 37 miles of Class I, II and III rapids, offering rafting and paddling through a scenic wonderland of cliffs and palisades. The river hosts big smallmouth bass and flathead catfish ready for the fisherman.
