New River Trail State Park

The New River Trail State Park, Historic Shot Tower, and Foster Falls Village tells the most basic and natural story of the region with an opportunity for visitors to see, hear, touch, and feel the history of the area. From the ancient New River to the Civil War connection of the Shot Tower, the area has been a focal point of Virginia's history since the first pioneers migrated west. As a Rails to Trails project, the New River Trail meanders through Grayson, Carroll, Wythe and Pulaski counties in southwestern Virginia and parallels the scenic and historic New River for 39 miles. Future development of the interpretative village at Foster Falls will tell another unique aspect of the history.
