Music at Heartwood

closeup photo of banjo playerExplore the rich musical heritage of Southwest Virginia at Heartwood – and glimpse the frontiers of fusion with other traditions and instruments.

Heartwood is home to The Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail, an organization that recognizes and supports places where traditional acoustic string music is performed. Hear musicians play and talk to them at concerts in our live performance area. Listen to our huge collection of local old-time, bluegrass and gospel music CDs and DVDs, and take some music home with you. Explore exhibits about how this authentic roots music grew and continues to thrive here.

Heartwood is also a performance place for the frontiers of this music, as performers explore new instruments, fuse with other musical traditions or push their horizons toward new forms of expression in special concerts and other events.

Live Music

Every Thursday night at Heartwood is live music beginning at 6:30 from The Crooked Road and a special Heartwood barbeque menu. The restaurant is open from 5-9 pm every Thursday night.

Open Jam Nights

First, third and fifth Thursdays are open jam nights. Bring your instrument and join a circle. Don't play? That's okay! We welcome everyone to join us for dinner or just grab a drink and walk around and listen.

The Crooked Road Venue Showcase

Second and fourth Thursdays are showcase nights for Southwest Virginia youth musicians or TCR venues from around the region.
