Journel Thomas is a woodturner who was born in the hills of southern Virginia and now lives and works on the same farm. His specialty is artfully carved salad bowls turned from what he terms "Native Exotics" from this area: burls, curly and spalted wood. He has numerous one-of-a-kind carving patterns showcasing his well-honed carving and design skills.
Journel is a member of the Southern Highland Guild and worked with students at the Professional Craft Department at Haywood Community College. Journel has worked with and around wood for close to 45 years. First as a carpenter/contractor and as a woodturner for the past 20 years.
