Keeping the story alive of the Overmountain Men Militia victorious campaign to the Battle of Kings Mountain, September 24 - October 7,1780. On October 7, 1780, a battle was fought between 900 American Patriots and 1,000 American Tories on a spur of Kings Mountain in South Carolina. The outcome of the Battle was the turning of the tide of the American Revolution according to Thomas Jefferson, future president of this great land. The Battle of Kings Mountain lasted 1 hour and 5 minutes but the real STORY began many months before. The Overmountain Men Muster Grounds, located in Abingdon, is the trail head for the 228 mile Overmountain Victory Trail. Each year re-enactors keep the story alive with the Annual March on parts of the original Trail.
